Summer is in full-swing and my skin is feeling it! My skin tends to be on the drier side, so it is (for the most part) better off when the air gets warmer and thicker. In the cold winter months, I rely heavily on oils, serums, and thick face creams to obtain some semblance of a glow. Now that those frigid months are far gone, I've had to revamp my beauty routine to better suit the season.
As you may know, I got engaged this past April (!) and ever since he popped the question, weddings have been at the forefront of my mind. Specifically my wedding - but also all of the other weddings and related events I have coming up this summer. Many of the weddings I attend are destination, which means I have to be very selective about the products I pack. In the past, it was simple for me to throw all of my conventional makeup products haphazardly into a bag, with peace of mind knowing I could stop by any local convenience store to pick up something I may have forgotten. But now that I use all-natural products (read my journey to non-toxic beauty here), I need to be more thoughtful about my packing selection process.
Throughout my transition to natural products, I have realized that all of my favorites fall at the intersection of skincare and beauty. I love when I am using a cover-up, or a blush, or a lip crayon that also helps nourish and heal my skin. There's truly nothing better than finding products that make you both feel and look your best! I highlight a few of these products on my list below.
So without further ado, here are my summer wedding (or really any event) beauty picks:
This product is my holy grail. I started using it the day of my first non-toxic beauty haul and haven't stopped since! I came across this cream because I was looking for a lightweight, effective, daily SPF. It has transformed my skin and continues to give me the dewiest, glowiest look with one to two pumps. The tint is super light (read: not heavy coverage) and gives your skin a sort of luminescent glow, although it is not shimmery at all. I love using this as a base for any other skincare or makeup I am using that day. I've also tried the Day Cream SPF 30 that is not tinted, and it works wonderfully as well. The price is a bit hefty, but if you had to pick one item on this list I would 100% recommend this one. Plus it lasts a while - I've only gone through one and a half bottles since last August.
I use this year-round, but it's an absolute must for the summer season - especially for those moments when you are sitting outside in direct sunlight during wedding ceremonies. No one will ever know your face is sun-protected when they see how glowing you are and how your makeup is smooth and sits perfectly on your face :)
Josh Rosebrook beautifully highlights the ingredients he has thoughtfully chosen in this cream on his website, and I thought it would be beneficial to share here as well:
Hemp moisturizes, treats acne, brightens, reduces dark/age spots, balances oil production.
Borage slows moisture loss, soothes, reduces redness, reduces fine lines, repairs cells.
Sea Buckthorn moisturizes, calms, repairs cells, treats acne.
Rose Hips brightens, soothes, firms, reduces dark/age spots, repairs cells.
Nettles treats acne, calms, brightens, repairs cells.
Bilberry firms, strengthens tissues, protects, brightens.
Linden calms, firms, treats acne, treats dryness.
Chamomile soothes, treats acne, calms, treats dryness.
Dandelion detoxifies, repairs cells, brightens, firms, protects.
Sage treats dryness, improves circulation, reduces redness, calms.
Burdock strengthens cell tissue, brightens, firms, balances hormones.
Run, don't walk, to your nearest Follain (or go to their website) to get this SPF cream pronto! Your skin will be thanking you.
Going along with the dewy, natural look (can you see a pattern in my beauty look preferences?), this "un" cover-up is a pocketbook essential. I am not one to ever use foundation (I don't own any), and I like very light but effective coverage. Enter this product: the perfect, all-over cover-up that you can use anywhere on your face/neck/body to conceal darkness, blemish, or any slight imperfection that may arise the day of an event. It doesn't cake, doesn't build up like a thick cover-up, and doesn't hide your beautiful skin - instead it is soft, moisturizing, and complements your natural beauty. The "un" cover-up is made with a blend of coconut, castor seed and jojoba oils, which are all super hydrating and healing. An added bonus: you can apply this with your (clean) fingers and don't need any brushes, sponges or tools. It's also the perfect size to pop into your small clutch that you'd wear to an event.
I use this product daily as my cover-up, but for events and other occasions I will use this as my "foundation." This means I'll take a generous amount into my fingers and rub it into my face to provide my other makeup an even-toned canvas to be applied to. The product seamlessly blends into my skin and provides both the perfect amount of summer coverage and a really nice glow without looking oily. I have my little pot of "un" cover-up with me at all times.
This lipstick crayon is my favorite that I've tried so far. There have been so many lip color products that have either made my lips very dry or have rubbed off within minutes of applying. This one does exactly the opposite: it's super soft (even moisturizing), and it lasts! It is made with oils of sesame, rose hip and papaya, which are all very healing and nourishing to our skin. I love that this lip color is in crayon form, as I was never one to perfect the whole neat lipstick application process. I'm super no-frills when it comes to lip color products - I don't even own a lip pencil - so this crayon is a godsend.
I bought this lipstick crayon in a few different shades when I first discovered how much I loved it, but Dress Me Up has been a consistent favorite. The gorgeous rose-berry hue is perfect for daily use and for times where you want to be a little more fancy!
4) Herbivore Coco Rose Body Scrub
I have found that sometimes skincare prep for events is equally or even more important than day-of beauty. For me, this prep usually involves exfoliating and moisturizing. This body scrub equally does both, and it's made with all-natural high-quality ingredients (can you say Moroccan rose), smells SO good, and makes my body so soft and glowy. For all of these reasons and more, it is a staple in my event prep routine.
This gem of a scrub is formulated with organic coconut oil, shea butter, meadowfoam seed oil, dog rose oil and kaolin clay. It feels so luxurious during application (exfoliation is not only great to remove dead skin cells, but also promotes circulation and toxin elimination!), and even more luxurious post-application. When I use this scrub, I don't have to apply oil or lotion to my body for a couple of days. That says a lot about it's power to pack in the moisture! It really is perfect to use prior to baring your arms and legs at any summer event.
I hope you've discovered some new favorites in this post. What are your summer wedding/event picks? Would love to know!
xx
